Our lower primary classroom is for students ages 6-9. In this classroom, students build on the foundations they established in the preschool classroom. Students developmentally desire to work in small groups. This gives them the opportunity to practice listening attentively, reasoning, and communicating their thoughts.
CURRICULUM
The Lower Primary curriculum focuses on cultural studies, language arts, math, and practical life skills. The goal is to use the cultural studies topics to enhance the language arts and math areas so the students are getting a well-rounded understanding of the world and how to apply their knowledge. Whether learning about the continents of Africa, the parts of the frog, or the functions of the brain, the goal is to utilize the students’ interests and steer them in the direction of discovery in all areas of life. The world was created by God for us to discover. The best part is that there is not just one avenue to learn, so we entertain the curiosities of the students while pushing them to apply their practical knowledge in the process.

Practical Life

In addition to the academic focuses, the students are also encouraged to take on more responsibilities within the classroom. Practical Life is an area that develops not only their problem-solving and fine motor skills, but also helps them stretch their teamwork muscles. For example, we have a chore chart in the classroom made by the students for the students. They not only had to list all the chores to keep the classroom clean and running, but also took into account how many students we have and who wanted to do what chore. At the end of class every day, the students reference their own chart and dutifully carry out their responsibilities. We are empowering our children to work together and respect the things that they have the opportunity to work with.
